Little threat from Europe
Article Abstract:
Many prominent European construction firms have expanded into the UK since 1989, attracted by the boom years of the 80s. Most have lost considerable amounts of money because of the recession. German company Hochtief lost 15 million pounds sterling 10 months after purchasing a 27% stake in Rush and Tompkins in Apr 1990. European firms have succeeded in obtaining good UK contracts. The 300 million pounds sterling Severn Bridge is a joint venture between Laing and the French company GTM Entrepose. It is expected that even more European companies will invest in the UK in the 90s.
