Sears, Roebuck to close call center
Article Abstract:
Sears, Roebuck and Co. announces the closure of its Madison, WI, call center which schedules appointment for customers seeking appliance repairs. The company states that the center is not large enough to make the cost of investment effective and that it is facing difficulties in keeping the center staffed due to the tight labor market in Madison. The call center, which opened in 1990, presently has 150 employees. Ten full-time employees and about 60 part-timers will be laid off. The other workers are either seasonal employees or contracted through a staffing agency. Meanwhile, Sears assures that customers calling from Madison will be routed to other locations with no additional hold time.

Nagoya-Mitsukoshi's clients who buy through catalogs can use the Citibank Dollar Card to pay for their purchases. Citibank Japan enjoys a rapidly-increasing use of its Citibank Dollar Card as a result of Japan's deregulation of its financial-services sector, which allows a greater number of Japanese consumers to use dollars in making their restaurant and retail payments.
