Seville's rediscovery
Article Abstract:
Expo '92, to be held in Seville, Spain from Apr to Oct 1992 will be the largest international exposition ever. Companies and 110 countries are building pavilions on the reclaimed site, creating a collection of innovative and eye-catching architecture. Design of the site and buildings has had to allow for the area's high temperatures. The traditional cooling use of plants and water has been supplemented by construction of tent structures. The site will become a business park after the exhibition and has been provided with communications and transport links. The remainder of Andalusia will also benefit from the legacy of Expo '92.

Seaside refreshments
Article Abstract:
The Pavilion Trust was formed in 1989 to campaign for the proper conservation of the 1935 De La Warr Pavilion at Bexhill-on-Sea, UK. Local council alterations, repairs and bad maintenance has changed the building's original look. The trust has devised a long-term strategy plan headed by London architects Troughton McAslan. McAslan is working with the local council who have a 5-year 900,000 pounds sterling repair programme. McAslan aims to keep the pavilion as a community care centre adding a regional arts or conference centre to pay for the refurbishment. Public access to the roof will be restored.

Turned out nice again
Article Abstract:
The De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill-on-Sea, England, is undergoing a phased refurbishment. Three phases of renovation, at a total cost of 2 million pounds sterling, have been undertaken so far, with the project being led by architectural firm John McAslan & Partners. An art gallery on the first floor was converted out of a municipal conference centre in 1995, while the 1 million pounds sterling internal refurbishment of the auditorium was completed in Sep 1999. The first phase, undertaken in 1991, involved dealing with corrosion in the steel balustrading and structural frame on the south side.
