Slipping the choke chain
Article Abstract:
The UK Construction Act has introduced new measurers which subcontractors can utilize in order to obtain their rightful payments from the main contractors. Sub-contractors have the right to stop working if they have not been paid as long as they have notified the main contractor. A case heard in the UK courts found purposely not paying subcontractors was a repudiatory breach of contract. Main contractors have used their ability to withhold payments in order to keep control over the subcontractors or to help their own cash flow.
