Street cred
Article Abstract:
The UK's modern street furniture industry lacks government funding and encouragement. Councils prefer to use mock Victorian street furniture rather than contemporary ones. Modern innovators in this area are Derek Hodgson Associates, OMK Design and Wales and Wales. Derek Hodgson pays attention to the functional requirements of the design, such as the Puf Bin for British Rail which extinguishes fires and its fibre optic, bulbless, maintenance-free London Underground sign. OMK Designs aims for manufacturing ease and cost efficiency and Wales and Wales aims for value for money and durability.

Double base
Article Abstract:
The deputy managing director of construction contractor Higgs & Hill Construction Holdings, Peter Popper, believes that the company's acquisition of design-and-build contractor J.T. Design Build will ensure that it has the ability to approach the design-and-build market from a broader skill base. Higgs & Hill regards J.T. as the market leader and Popper believes that it will allow the contractor focus on clients that it has failed to attract previously.
