Three QSs chase 840m pounds sterling Korean deal
Article Abstract:
Plans by South Korean concern Hyundai Electronics Industries to build an 840 million pounds sterling semiconductor plant in Scotland have attracted considerable interest from quantity surveying firms. It is thought that the contract for the quantity surveying work on the scheme is most likely to go to Turner and Townsend, Tozer Gallagher or Beard Dove. They were selected from seven companies which recently made presentations to Hyundai.

Railtrack raps QS advisers
Article Abstract:
Railtrack, which owns the UK's tracks and stations, is expressing concern about the poaching of external QSs working on secondment to the company by other concerns appointed on Railtrack schemes. It has found that the rates charged for an individual QS's work are often considerably higher if that person is recruited by another practice. It is believed that the Railtrack is the largest purchaser in the UK of quantity surveying services.

Bucknall team starts breakaway firm

Thomas, Johnson, Pearson and Bossons is a new operation formed by four regional directors from quantity surveying firm Bucknall Austin. This will be involved in pure quantity surveying work, in contrast to Bucknall Austin, which has moved into other areas over recent years. The founder felt that they could no longer tolerate the rapid diversification of Bucknall Austin, and were also seeking the challenge of closer client contact.
