Trading places
Article Abstract:
Trade Centre Developments (TCD) will open its first industrial park in Nov 1997. Director Charles Owen plans to open a further 25 parks over the succeeding two years. TCD will develop parks for companies, including hire shops and timber merchants, which sell to traders. Each trading estate will cost up to 1 million pounds sterling to develop and will have up to 12 units. Owen will build new parks, but he is particularly interested in retail parks which have failed, as these can be viable for trade usage.

Contractors to lead shake-up at Ministry of Defence
Article Abstract:
The UK Ministry of Defence is to let most of its construction work, reducing costs by 40% by awarding a small number of profitable, long-term contracts to key contractors. It is anticipated that Laing and Amec will be named as the first two contractors, with the first contracts to be signed in 1999. The Ministry of Defence has identified five regions, and plans to have around three prime contractors in each region. The Ministry of Defence itself will not be involved in selecting suppliers.
