Using the personal as path to profits
Article Abstract:
A variety of Internet World Wide Web-based business startups have been adversely affected because of poor marketing economics. Public and private investors are demanding a clear path for how fast these Internet startups will become profitable. Thus, many Internet business plans are increasingly adopting such path-to-profitability strategies. Fledgling Internet companies would leverage relationships among friends to promote their products by implementing personal relationship marketing programs. Such programs are highly effective and do not require real advertising.

The recent proposal by AOL to distribute pay-per-call ads has drawn a lot of media attention. However, since pay-per-phone-call model is still in the early stages of development, it is facing several challenges. An overview of the three major issues is presented.
