Will the public swallow the Oyster?
Article Abstract:
The Ideal Home Exhibition of 1998 launched a competition to find a new and innovative house design, which would provide living and working space for a family of five, while costing approximately 100,000 pounds sterling inclusive of finishes and fittings. Nigel Coates designed the winning construction, called the Oyster House. It is built from timber constructed kits and provides accommodation on two floors in the form of multi-functional zones. The Oyster House could be mass produced on a viable basis, according to Coates.
