Conrad Payne Mook: 1914-1997

Meteorologist Conrad Payne Mook was born in Titusville, PA in 1914. In 1937, he got an appointment at the US Weather Bureau in Conaton, OH, after which he studied for his Master's degree at the New York University, where he taught meteorology to military officers during the second world war. He spent the rest of his life working at the Weather Bureau in Washington working as a research forecaster. The work entailed providing understanding of forecast events and development of methods for accurate weather predictions. He is remembered most for his analysis of a controversial hurricane in 1947.

Lev S. Gandin: 1921-1997
Article Abstract:
Lev S. Gardin had made valuable contributions to meteorology in areas, such as dynamic meteorology, numerical weather prediction and applied meteorology and climatology. With over 200 journal papers credited to his name, the Leningrad-born mathematician got his degree from the Leningrad State University's School of Mathematics and Mechanics in 1945 and earned his Ph.D. a year later. After his migration to the US in 1987, the author of classic books on meteorology worked at the National Meteorological Center where he spent almost all of the remaining years of his life.
