Gary Hart's winning of forty percent of the vote in the Massachusetts Democratic primary gave him a clean sweep of the New England primaries. Massachusetts, the most liberal of these states, has a maverick election record. The outcome of the Massachusetts primary is analyzed including its meaning for the Mondale campaign. Hart's use of gestures and language reminiscent of John Kennedy is mentioned. The end of the McGovern campaign is described.
