Article Abstract:
Travel agency business in the United Kingdom grew 32% to about 8.5 billion pounds sterling in 1995 from 1990, although the market declined 4% in real terms. Retail outlets accounted for about 80% of inclusive holiday and travel arrangements, with Teletext and tour operators accounting for 20%. Forty percent of independent travel bookings are made direct, with about 60% booked via travel agents. British residents took about 24.7 million overseas trips in 1995, with the market for short break and long haul holidays expected to expand.
