Electric utilities such as Colorado Springs Utilities and Arizona Public Service have installed networks in anticipation of power quality problems. The networks are used to carry out transient and harmonic analyses as well as measure operating parameters such as demand and power factor.

The Tennessee Valley Authority's Sullivan station is the site of the first prototype installation of Westinghouse Science and Technology Center's Statcom static compensator. The device employs gate-turn-off thyristors instead of capacitor or reactor banks to control electric power flow.
