An empirical study of the relationship between production technology and maintenance management
Article Abstract:
Complex technologies have strong relationships with maintenance practices since they often stimulate the enhancement of maintenance workers' technical expertise. Technical complexity calls for decentralization in maintenance practices and usage of professional staff with extensive training with regards to technical expertise. In terms of operator involvement, technical complexity results in lesser involvement; since services coming from skilled maintenance workers are preferable to those of operators.

Evaluating designing principles of Japanese production systems
Article Abstract:
A study of Japanese production systems show that these are strongly influenced by culture. The Japanese, for instance, adopt a more holistic approach to integrating the functions of a company while there is very little written information at the shop floor due to difficulties in writing Japanese. Thus, the unique aspects of Japanese culture must be considered when adopting Japanese-style production systems to another cultural background.
