Construction Congress keynote address

Article Abstract:

Construction consultant John Chiaverini believes that construction engineers have not done their jobs to the full extent of their capabilities. He says liability lawsuits abound because engineers have abandoned their responsibilities as decision makers. They have allowed lawyers to make their business decisions for them. For Chiaverini, the industry has to go back to the old days of doing business. They have to give clients their money's worth, plan collectively to save on time and let lawyers legalize their business actions without changing their decisions.

Meeting the challenges of the next century

Article Abstract:

Three trends will impact water and environment engineering in the future. These concern the use of information technology, the focus on manufacturing process-driven environmental management, and experience- and risk management-based regulations. Besides these, the increasing role of global economics will render the industry at the same level of maturity as the US automotive industry in the 1960s.
