DoE shoots down Redhill proposal
Article Abstract:
Redhill Aerodrome Venture has seen environment secretary John Gummer reject its plans for a commercial airport at Redhill airfield. The company had hoped to build a hard runway, conference centre/hotel, terminal and a road link with the M23, but the DoE felt that the development would cause noise and environmental damage. It was not felt that a commercial airport would make a significant contribution to easing passenger volumes at nearby Gatwick airport.

Whistle down the wind
Article Abstract:
Local planning authorities in the UK have generally adopted a negative attitude towards windfarms over recent years, and this is placing the government's policy on the use of windfarms in doubt. A significant problem has been that the most suitable sites for windfarms are generally on high, exposed ground in rural areas, often in environmentally-sensitive areas. This has meant that there has been strong local opposition to windfarm plans.
