Fear not: the art of risk communication

Article Abstract:

Neutralizing public protests over environmental projects requires that managers possess the art of risk communication. Risk communication involves studying the motivations behind the objections of both the public and media to the proposed projects. Understanding the root of their protests gives managers an opportunity to find ways to allay their fears and possibly win their support. Managers need to realize that the public's perception of risk is not only based on the physical harm posed but also on the moral and emotional issues associated with the project.
