Environmental service companies need to develop marketing plans that will appropriately position them as unique in the market. The companies' weaknesses and strengths need to be identified and matched with specific opportunities and competitive threats. This marketing plan needs to be clearly articulated in the sales and marketing program presented to potential and existing clients.

Town and country planners can do a lot to present themselves well when applying for management jobs. They should analyse their own strengths, weaknesses, threats and opportunities as managers. They must have a positive attitude towards the managerial side of their job, and include management development in their CDP plan. They should use their managerial skills.
