Looking over the horizon
Article Abstract:
Recent progress in radio technology results in a better understanding of radar fundamentals, and the technology is expected to continue to improve. Continual developments in integrated circuits and complex software are expected to improve processing capability, particularly in trackers. The processing power of modern computers and digital signal processing chips make over-the-horizon (OTH) radar an operational reality. OTH works because it uses the ionosphere to refract its waves back to earth. There are problems with OTH: antennas must be very large, spatial resolution is relatively coarse, and the frequency band is densely occupied. New uses of OTH are in the areas of interdiction of drug traffickers and monitoring wind patterns over the ocean.

Innovative partnership programs: partnering and other innovative programs change the face of distribution at GE Supply
Article Abstract:
GE Supply, Bridgeport, CT, is implementing a total quality (TQ) management process which links customers' needs with increased in-company efficiency to speed delivery and lower overall cost. The customer gets up-to-date product and inventory information and technical assistance in a timely and responsible manner. GE Supply's TQ work-out technique involves the use of a 'town meeting' format in which management, branches and customers cooperate to meet TQ goals. Combined with TQ, a 'hub and spoke' distribution system and an XPD2 real-time information system give customers' quick access to a broad inventory.
