Riding the legacy line. (development in Poland)
Article Abstract:
UK planners visited Poland to undertake a detailed study tour of town planning issues, and found a rapid rate of development. The level of car ownership in Warsaw is high and there are relatively few parking restrictions. There is an increasing problem with congestion in the city centres, although a metro underground link became operation in 1995, with plans to extend it. Many western investors are locating their outlets at key sites on Warsaw's suburban road network.

The Minnesota Power-Line Wars
Article Abstract:
The construction of a power plant and transmission line in Minnesota resulted in vast protests by the citizens of the area in the 1970s. Efforts by the state to resolve the conflict between the people and the power cooperatives failed. While citizens complained of health problems from the lines, scientific experts could find no evidence of harmful effects, and the line remained.
