Showing the hard face of light metals: Aluminium and other light alloys can be coated to make them tougher than any steel
Article Abstract:
Combining electrolytic and plasma spark processes can produce a tough surface structure on metals, making the metals more wear resistant than steel. The Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation (PEO) technique is based on current flowing in both directions and high voltage, which generates a spark discharge at the interface between component and solution. Oxygen is transferred from the electrolyte to the product, followed by the plasma discharge.
