System simulator speeds design of CDMA amplifier
Article Abstract:
A combination of circuit- and system-level computer-aided engineering (CAE) tools from Ansoft Corp. has been used to evaluate a particular amplifier-linearization technique. Such a procedure facilitates the development of a feedforward amplifier, appropriate for IS-95 communications systems. Used to simulate a feedforward structure at curcuit and system levels, Ansoft's Serenade Nonlinear Wireless Suite enabled accomplishment of several tasks, such as the examination of linear and nonlinear aspects of the sytem and delivering insight into critical system properties. Using a mix of system-level behavioral models and cuircuit-level simulation data, a feedforward system was eventually assembled and simulated, which was tested for several performance parameters.

System simulator incorporates DSP tools
Article Abstract:
The SystemView system simulator from Elanix Inc. facilitates the design of digital-signal processing components, when used in tandem with the Xilinx Core Generator and DSP LogiCORE development software from Xilinx. Encompassing extensive libraries of analog and digital component models, SystemView supports a roster of function libraries for analog/RF design, DSP design code-division-multiple-access (CDMA) systems and transistor-transistor-logic (TTL) development. When integrated with the Xilinx Core Generator, SystemVIew incorporates function tokens that represent the functionality of each Xilinx DSP LogiCORE structure, and allows designers to implement complex DSP functions in the form of field--programmable-gate-array devices.

Program facilitates toroid design
Article Abstract:
B and E Engineering Software of Woodbine, MD, has released TOROID version 3.0 software which focuses on the uses and applications of powdered-iron toroid cores. The software allows users to calculate inductors as functions of core size, core mix, wire size and application frequency. TOROID contains more than 800 combinations of cores and core mixes.
