The Budget on roads: how was it for you?
Article Abstract:
The Nov. 1996 UK budget should have focused on much needed tax incentives to help reduce road traffic, says Transport 2000 director Lynn Sloman. The government's current road-building policy, temporarily halted due to lack of funds, is misguided and short-sighted. By-pass road systems only provide short-term relief to urban traffic congestion as more building developments are inevitable. Green commuter plans to reduce traffic including public transport discounts and car sharing alternatives are discussed.
