An overview is presented on using color-change technology for security-clearance items such as visitor badges and parking permits, in which a gradual chemical process produces a change in color indicating an item has expired. The article focuses on visually changing paper (VCP), which uses inexpensive materials, has a long shelf-life prior to activation, and is consistent in producing a color change after a specified time.
