A composting company grows in Britain
Article Abstract:
Eco Composting Ltd. is a British composting company concentrating on yard trimmings. Starting with a contract with the Dorset County Council to process 7,000 metric tons during its first year, Eco has now grown into a large, profitable enterprise, composting more than 20,000 metric tons of waste annually. Believing marketing to be the key to successful composting, Eco has successfully promoted their product as a soil improver, not as compost. Containing costs and success in marketing has contributed to profit generation even with prevailing low gate fees in the composting industry.

What it takes to build a composting business
Article Abstract:
A study of the first five years at the Barnes Nursery composting division shows that the sale of compost produced major income during the last two years; site improvements and equipment required major expenditure. Municipal tipping contracts are essential to the operation as they ensure the flow of organics produced by spring cleanups and leaf pickups. Capital expenses for Barnes were $60,000 for year one, $210,000 for year two and $200,000 for year three.
