Cleaning up contaminants with plants
Article Abstract:
A team of plant physiologists, molecular biologists, soil scientists and engineers at Purdue is identifying the genes responsible for the key steps in phytoremediation and developing plants to use in remediating different types of contaminants around the world. The research is done with an aim to clean up polluted solid and also to develop new technologies to detect soil and water contamination.

Composting explosives contaminated soils
Article Abstract:
A summary of projects demonstrating the effectiveness of composting as a bioremediation tool is presented, focusing on soil contaminated with explosives. Such projects are typically sited at military bases, among them the Army's Pueblo Chemical Depot in Colorado where consulting company Earth Tech is decontaminating 26,184 cu yd of soil from a former munitions washout facility.
