Article Abstract:
Australian firefighters tackled major bush fires throughout the country in late 2006. A fire in a Moscow drug rehabilitation center killed at least 40 people, all women. New York firefighters dealt with a plane crash into an apartment building on Manhattan's Upper East Side, killing New York Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle and his flying instructor and damaging several floors of the apartment building.

A roundup of incidents in 2007 confronted by firefighters in different parts of the world is presented. These include: the island plane crash in Phuket, Thailand on September 16; the crash of more than 30 vehicles in a Californian highway on October 13; the cargo crash in Kinshasa, Congo on October 4; and the mine tragedies in China and Columbia in September and October, respectively.
