It's a new era for farm compost
Article Abstract:
New Era Farm Service emphasizes to farmers who are considering moving to biological farming methods that the use of compost is vital. The company makes and sells its own dairy manure/straw compost, advises farmers about producing their own compost and arranges deals with farmers to custom make compost at a location selected by the farmer. It rents land from three different dairies in the Central Valley region of California, and produces between 100,000 and 150,000 tons of compost a year.

Mulching in California orchards
Article Abstract:
The rising costs of refuse disposal have forced farmers to find a cost effective option to disposing their orchard wood by using wood residuals such as yard wastes in their orchards. The residuals are converted into usable materials through the process of mulching. Growers who use mulched material in their orchards say the trees, plants and soil are dramatically healthier as compared to applying chemical fertilizers.

Neither sun nor snow slows down these composters
Article Abstract:
Composters, both human and microbial, can be affected by climatic conditions. Composting of manure from a dairy, a feedlot and a veterinary hospital is undertaken by the Animal Science Department of Washington State University in Pullman, on an asphalt pad throughout the year. Snow is remove using snow plows and blowers and the heat from the composting process gradually melts any ice.
