Landfill operators get a composting model
Article Abstract:
The Metro Waste Authority's mixed organic composting project, to be implemented in Nov 1996, highlights the importance of composting food residuals in landfill operations. It provides technical data to the landfill operators. The project involves construction of two enclosed generators with five windrows each in Des Moines. The material for composting will include yard trimmings, vegetables, fruits, cereals and tree limbs. Details of the building structure, equipment, acceptable materials and tip fees are provided.

Organic feedstock generators team up with local farmers
Article Abstract:
Collaboration with organic feedstock generators has helped farmers in Maine to recognize the beneficial aspects of organic recycling. Composting is a profitable venture for the farmers as they sell compost at both wholesale and retail markets, and also get substantial tipping fees from the generators. More than 26 farms compost farm, food, and fish processing residuals, industrial organics and other waste materials. Successful compost operations in some Maine farms are presented.
