Protecting forests and supporting renewable energy
Article Abstract:
The Colorado Governor's Office of Energy Management and Conservation (OEMC) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) have come together to sponsor a project at a generating station owned by Aquila, Inc. in Canon City, Colorado plant that aims to cofire forest thinning with coal to generate electricity. The project entails recovering the incremental costs associated with cofiring through the sale of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs).

Oregon biopower program off to strong start
Article Abstract:
Energy Trust of Oregon Inc. got a good response when it issued a request for proposal seeking projects that turn organic waste into electricity. The program is an important contribution to the Oregon Department of Energy's long-standing effort to support biomass and other renewable resources.
