Solid waste agencies use cooperative marketing
Article Abstract:
The Great River Regional Waste Authority (GRRWA) and the Bluestem Solid Waste Agency have pooled their resources and used a cooperative marketing strategy, resulting in increased compost and mulch sales. For the fiscal year ending in June 1996, both agencies sold a combined total of over one million bags of compost and mulch. Each agency has its own product line and name, and each is separately responsible for its own product quality. However, GRRWA is the combined venture's administrator and marketer, looking after sales, transportation, scheduling, billing and collection.

The key to successful MSW compost marketing
Article Abstract:
MSW composting is socially and politically attractive due to its potential to recycle 50% to 70% of the waste stream. However, marketing compost has resulted in failures attributed to the attitudes of compost producers, most of whom see decrease of waste disposal as the primary concern and generation of high quality compost as only secondary. MSW compost production should instead emphasize the quality of end product and the satisfaction of market specifications. To achieve this, chemical decontamination should be stressed in order to ensure clean, marketable compost.

Marketing organic soil products
Article Abstract:
Marketing strategies for compost and other organic soil materials require the expansion of existing markets to accommodate the growth in the industry. Potential organic soil material markets include garden supplies stores, landscape contractors and wholesalers. The development of the existing market and the industry's expansion into new ones entail consistency in the quality and supply of materials and services to maintain consumer confidence. As demand increases, the industry can increase supply through composting of municipal wastes.
