Recovering scrap lumber at curbside
Article Abstract:
The inclusion of a demonstration project to collect scrap wood into the curbside recycling program in Aberdeen, Maryland, in Apr 1995 has increased the recycling tonnage to 75 tons/month. The collected scrap lumber is recycled and fabricated into usable products such as racks, workbenches and display benches. The project has been a success due to effective advertising and participation planning. The household participation rate is almost 12.6% and 16% of the scrap is clean lumber.

Getting the public involved
Article Abstract:
Officials in Falls Church, VI, encouraged community members to purchase recycled products by launching a month-long 'treasure hunt' for recycled materials. The prizes for the lucky treasure-hunt seekers ranged from $30 to $40, which came from donations of local businesses. The city plans to run new activities that focus on recycling to help solve its problems on wastes.
