Water and wastewater industries headed toward growth

A state-of-the-industry report revealed growing markets for water and wastewater engineering. The report released by Farkas Berkowitz and Co showed that the combined market for water and wastewater engineering rose by 15% to $3.1 billion in 1999. The water engineering segment grew 25% in 1999, up from the 19% growth in 1998. The wastewater engineering sector expanded 8%, up from the 7% growth in the previous year. The report also revealed the emergence of several design-build-operate water plants.

Civil engineering firm designs marine laboratory
Article Abstract:
Enartec Inc. has concluded a contract to design a seawater intake system, pump station and transmission pipeline for the new Moss Landing Marine Laboratories, a research and education building located in Moss Landing, CA. The San Diego, CA-based civil engineering firm designed the 1,000-sq- ft pump station, intake pipe and conveyance pumpline in such a way as to allow seismic considerations and to circumvent a temporary bridge constructed in the area after the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake.

Tablet chlorination systems allow plants to meet stricter government/insurance regulations
Article Abstract:
PPG Industries Inc supplied the tablet chlorination system used by the municipal water plant and the McLeon and Jones water plants in Fort Valley, GA, when new government and insurance regulations neccessitated a review of their existing systems. The company's Accu-Tab system was also used by the City of Dubuque Water Division when new regulations regarding chlorine concentrations in water systems were imposed by the Iowa Dept of Natural Resources.
