Raramuri personhood and ethnicity: another perspective
Article Abstract:
The construction of personhood and ethnicity among the Raramuri cannot be properly investigated through superficial ethnography and poor interpretations of Raramuri culture and history. In the case of baptisms, the Raramuri interpretation of fire baptisms differs from the interpretation of church baptisms, with the latter viewed as simple affairs. Contemporary baptized Raramuri society and culture can only be understood as historical formations significantly influenced by colonial and postcolonial elements.

Cultural constructs versus psychoanalytic conjectures: comments on "the 'man of sorrow.'" (comments on Michelle Stephen's portrayal of the 'man of sorrow')
Article Abstract:
Michelle Stephen's portrayal of the concept of 'men of sorrow' of the Mekeo society and culture seems to be inappropriate although she has presented the concept as a cultural construct of that society. Such inappropriate depiction of a culturally loaded concept can be attributed to the author's failure to consult recent ethnographic studies. Readers can easily distinguish the inadequacy of Stephen's portrayal of the idea.
