The Society's 1992 tour to Sri Lanka and the Maldives
Article Abstract:
A tour of Sri Lanka was conducted by sixteen members of the Royal Society for Asian Affairs. The group set off on Sep 3, 1992, and travelled to Colombo, the capital city; to Anuradhapura, where ancient monuments speak of a rich heritage; to Yapahuwa, once a 13th century royal capital; to Mihintale, a sacred pilgrim destination; to Aukana, site of the immense granite statue of Buddha; to Sirigaya, an old fortress city; to Polonnaruwa, former capital of Chola kings; to Kandy, site of the Temple of the Tooth which houses Buddha's relic; to the Victoria Dam; and to Nuwara Eliya, 1900 meters above sea level. Brief articles on the flora and fauna of Sri Lanka and the Maldives are included.

Uzbekistan diary: the Society's tour, May 3-20, 1994
Article Abstract:
The Society's tour of Uzbekistan, has helped its members in general and Elizabeth Rawson, in particular, to understand various aspects of the country's rural and urban life. The tour lasted for 17 days started from Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, and passed through many places of historical and economic importance. A wide range of questions which deal with key social, political, economic and historical facets are explored. The subtle features of some important Islamic architectural marvels and their restoration are also discussed.
