Article Abstract:
The British interest in Afghanistan started in 1896 when India's territorial boundaries were threatened by the troops of Zaman Shah, Ahmad Shah's grandson, from Lahore. Since then, British foreign policy towards Afghanistan were dictated by British interests in India. India's role in British foreign policy formulation was inescapable, as the country was considered Britain's most-prized territory.

Saudi Arabia has drawn international media attention since the Gulf War, the terrorist attacks of Sep 11, 2001, and the continuing US war against terrorism. Many Saudis are sympathetic toward Osama bin Laden, much of which is based on rejecting US support for Israel and American attempts to dominate the Middle East.

The keys to the United Arab Emirates' prosperity and polticial stability are oil revenues from Abu Dhabi and Dubai's growth as a regional commercial center. Shaykh Zayid has ruled this region since its establishment in 1971, and his successor will likely maintain positive relations with the US.
