Husbands' and wives' resources and marital dissolution
Article Abstract:
The influence of spousal resources on marital dissolution was investigated. Data from the 1968-1985 Panel Study of Income Dynamics were analyzed to test whether the chance of marital dissolution increases when the husband has fewer resources and the wife has more resources. Empirical results showed that wives' earnings have a nonlinear, U-shaped correlation with marital dissolution and influence the impact of husbands' earnings on marital dissolution. Furthermore, the wives' better economic prospects do not increase the risk of marital dissolution independently of their earnings.

Sex differences in prospective associations between marital quality and depressed mood
Article Abstract:
The relationship between marital quality and depressed mood was investigated to determine if it is affected by sex. Forty-seven newly married couples were asked to complete two assessments over a period of three months. Hierarchical regression analyses showed that sex regulated the connection between initial marital quality and later depressed mood. Lower scores on initial marital quality indicated larger increases in depressed mood for women compared to men.
