BBC films cod discards
Article Abstract:
A BBC reporter estimated that 70% to 80% of the catch of a prawn trawler he was on was cod. All of it died because it is illegal for the boat to land it, and consequently the dead fish were thrown back into the sea. UK Fisheries Minister Jonathan Shaw it was sad to see good quality fish go to waste. The Seafish created the Discards Action Group early in 2007, composed of fishermen and their representatives, seafood processors and buyers, and government to go over the subject and test possible solutions applicable to all of UK's fleet.
