Ban on toys in food packets could spark off EU row
Article Abstract:
Belgium's attempts to ban the placing of small plastic toys in food packets could have repercussions throughout the European Union (EU), with many member nations unwilling to sanction such legislation. The Belgian Health Minister's move follows the death of an elderly women after she choked on a plastic toy in a packet of crisps. The proposed rules would affect other products such as confectionery. Manufacturers are afraid that if the Belgian legislation is adopted it could encourage the EU to bring in similar rules.
