Approximately 250 people gathered to hear a Portland, OR, lecture from epidemiologist Curtis Ellison on the therapeutic value of moderate wine consumption. The luncheon was sponsored by Women for WineSense and the low rate of heart disease among the French was discussed.

Wine makes you thin - officially
Article Abstract:
A major study of 16,000 men and women who drink either wine or beer found wine drinkers to be thinner in appearance, as measured by waist-to-hip ratios. The ratio held even when subjects who mostly drank wine averaged the same caloric consumption as beer drinkers.

Beringer wins OK for 'French Paradox' promo
Article Abstract:
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms has given Beringer permission to attach information on bottles of red wine regarding its potential therapeutic properties. Beringer may quote from a '60 Minutes' episode touting the value of moderate consumption.
