This analysis of the capital investment plans of the food industry brings out the good and bad signs for the future of the industry. The bad news is the closing and consolidation of food plants around the country. The good news is the upgrading of food processing through the use of new technology, both in the processes and the machinery involved. Overall spending is expected to be cautious in this slow growth industry.

Aseptic products power Ocean Spray's profit drive

How Ocean Spray developed the aseptic "paper bottle" is traced from the perceived need through the marketing stage. By convincing the public that the unrefrigerated paper carton was aseptic and that the juices were not full of preservatives, Ocean Spray was able to pull off a packaging tour de force which generated increased profits and snagged many new customers.
