Cross-border trading on the increase in northern Europe
Article Abstract:
A survey of shoppers in south-east England, northern France and Belgium shows that cross-border shopping is a growing trend. Some 900 shoppers were questioned by Centre regionale de la consommation and all said that price was the main motivation for cross-border shopping. The survey shows that 53% of the Belgians questioned regularly shop in France and 6% in the UK. France was the destination for 43% of UK shoppers, with the main incentives including wine, tobacco and perfume.

Top-selling European brands headed by Coke
Article Abstract:
Coca-Cola is the top selling brand in Europe according to a list compiled by Nielsen, a market research organisation. Coca-Cola company represents 10% of the value of the top 100 brands. Several of the top brands are pan-European including Coca-cola, Ariel, Pampers, Whiskas and Nescafe. Even products with a strong national base are finding it easier to become European brands as barriers to trade within the EU are removed.

Coke expands into E. Europe
Article Abstract:
Coca-cola is continuing its expansion in Eastern Europe with the opening of two new bottling plants in Romania. It plans to open two plants in Russia, one in Hungary and one in Latvia this year. Its central European division represent over 5% of sales volume and has helped increase its share of the eastern Europen market.
