The winemakers form the North Fork and the South Fork of the Long Island always compared their soil, climate and grapes to that of France. However, at present they are learning to work with their own territory and their own distinct flavor to the wines, Merlot and local foods.

Hudson River valley, which has the US some of the most beautiful countryside is at present undergoing a food and wine culture emerging worth of the setting. Gorgeous scenery and quality cuisine are the main appeals, while the ever-improving wineries show plenty of promise.

Small wineries of the Finger Lakes make some of the best Rieslings in the US. A strikingly beautiful landscape and some of the best Rieslings in the US coupled with some of the best restaurants attached to the wineries define this rapidly developing wine making region.
