New anti-bioterrorism rules could hurt wine imports: FDA regulations may limit consumer choice

Article Abstract:

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration in accordance with the Public Health Security and Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response Act of 2002, issued regulations, which may make it harder for American consumers to buy high-end foreign wines as the regulations intended to prevent bioterrorism. The regulations in force are interim final rule and another seventy-five days are given to the concerned parties to comment.

Article Abstract:

The governor of Virginia, Mark Warner halfway into his four-year term has signed legislation allowing Virginia wine to be shipped throughout the country. He feels that the increase in the quality of wine over the last three-to five years can be attributed to better winemakers and to the transformation of vineyard owners from hobbyists to serious proprietors.

Supreme Court lifts shipping bans

Article Abstract:

The US Supreme Court has overturned the existing system of prohibitions on direct wine shipments in several states allowing many consumers greater access to rare and hard-to-find wines. The court has decided that states cannot ban wineries outside their borders from shipping wine directly to their residents while allowing in-state producers to do so.
