Paloma Winery: new Merlot maker fine-tunes in the vineyard

Paloma Winery, located on Spring Mountain in Napa Valley, CA, was founded by Jim and Barbara Richards when they moved to California from Texas in 1988. The site is well located and receives consistent temperatures. The company sold grapes until 1993. Now the company makes its own well-regarded wine.

Long Island experiences growth surge; number of wineries and vineyard acreage jumps, and there's more to come

Long Island now has 20 winemakers, up six from 1994, and 1,800 acres in the region are devoted to grapes, a 12.5% jump. Schneider Vineyards, one of the new wineries, has released 1994 vintages of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Other wineries are also discussed.
