Counterfeit bottles are increasing due to increasing global demand for collectible wines, with about 5% of wines sold in secondary markets likely to be counterfeits. The best protection against forgeries is dealing with reputable and trustworthy collectors and auction houses, with producers also developing innovative ways to mark their bottles with serial numbers or engravings on the glass to prevent counterfeits.
