Article Abstract:

Southland Corp. and J&J Snack Foods have forged a deal to make a new product called Slurpee Ice, which is the latest seasonal version of Slurpee sold in 7-Eleven outlets. The 8-oz Slurpee Ice is a frozen novelty in a squeeze-up tube. The new product, which will have the logo and name of Slurpee, features various flavors that include cherry, lemon, cola and blue raspberry. Slurpee Ice can be bought at participating 7-Eleven outlets over the summer 1998 selling season. Through its MIA Products unit, J&J Snack Foods of Pennsauken, NJ, has designed a patented method to make and package Slurpee Ice.

Mixed fortunes for East Europe's food retailers

Article Abstract:

Eastern European food retailers' total turnover for 1995 is valued at 126.9 billion American dollars, 58.1% less than the equivalent figure for 1991. Bulgaria, Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic performed well during the period, however, with increases in turnover of 92.9, 78.9, 23.1 and 56.6 billion American dollars, respectively. Food retailing industries all over Eastern Europe are expected to grow until the year 2,000.

Foreign retailers target Germany market

Article Abstract:

Foreign convenience store retailers are expanding in Germany, despite being in direct competition with local retailers. Southland Corporation/Seven Eleven, a major convenience store group, is aiming to open six outlets in Berline and Tesco of the UK is also expected to enter the Germany market. German convenience retailerws including Lekkerland and Sugro may have the opportunity to supply services to new overseas retailers.
