United Biscuits 48.5m pounds sterling in the red after US and Spanish disasters

United Biscuits (UB) of the UK has reported losses of 48.5 million pounds sterling for the first six months of 1995, mainly due to continued negotiations for the sale of its troubled US subsidiary, Keebler. Operating profits were halved to 48.8 million pounds sterling. However overall sales at UBSE, the company's European snackfood operations, rose by 2% although operating profit fell. The group's UK McVities biscuit division saw sales rise by 3%, but its UK snack food division, KP, saw sales fall 3%.

United Biscuits (UB) of the UK, has reported a slight rise in pre tax profit, on sales down slightly to 3.43 billion pounds sterling. Its KP UK savoury snack division saw sales up slightly, although profits were down due to increased packaging and production costs. Its Keebler US snackfood company reported a rise in operating profits and an increased share of the US biscuit market. Operations in Asia-Pacific improved and Scandinavia showed a successful performance.

Nabisco lifted by overseas sales

Nabisco of the US, a biscuit and snacks group, lifted overall profits by 36% to $79 million helped by a sharp rise in international profits, although sales from domestic operations were flat. The Nabisco Biscuit Company saw sales increased 5% by volume and 6% by value, although competition in the US biscuit market is strong.
