Amateur winetasters competed to identify wines in a blind tasting hosted by Greenwood Ridge Vineyards of Mendocino County, CA. Winners of this event, which is in its 10th year, received prizes that included free nights at local inns and cases of wine.

Phylloxera costs hit hard in California

The root louse phylloxera, which ruins wine grapes, has had a devastating effect on some grape growers. Glen Ellen Winery participated in a Sonoma, CA, meeting in which viticulturists discussed the need to protect vineyards and the costs of doing so.
