Year of the flood
Article Abstract:
The best producers in Austria made excellent Riesling and Gruner Veltliner wines, despite torrential rains in August 2002 that damaged the terraces, winery buildings and equipment. The rain and floods that were followed by warm, dry days and cool nights in September and October, promoted ripeness in the grapes while preserving acidity.
